  6. As someone who lives in israel, I find the moment of silence to be a nice way to bring everyone together.

    as for the comment about Meah Shaarim, I can't talk specifically about that area, but I can tell you that many charedim to do not observe the moment of silence. They believe that tehillim or other "more religious" things should be done and that the moment of silence is not meaningfull.

    Honestly, as a skeptic/heretic, i respect the way they feel since I would not want to be roped into a forced religious observance of yom hashoah or yom hazikaron. would i be comfortable being forced to say tehillim for two minutes that i think are worthless?

    that said, i think they should at least be respectful of others who do wish to observe that moment of silence.
